Advantages
Robust foodservice-grade material with good durability
According to spec sheets, versions of the 7-1/8″ plate from International Tableware (ITI) are “fully vitrified,” “lead-free,” “dishwasher safe,” “microwave safe,” and built for commercial use. For example: “fully vitrified… designed to withstand continuous heat up to 350 °F
Disadvantages
toneware/ceramic weight & handling considerations
As a commercial plate made of ceramic/stoneware and fully vitrified, it will likely be heavier than lightweight retail crockery. In a high-turnover service environment this can affect staff ergonomics (clearing tables, stacking, dishwashing) and may increase fatigue or mishandling risk.
Comment
As a guest dining at the restaurant, I noticed the plate felt solid and looked good on the table—nice rim, clean finish. But when the main course arrived on a bigger plate next, there was a noticeable size difference which made the progression feel a little disparate (starter plate then large main plate). If all courses were on this size, for large mains it might feel a bit tight.

Advantages
Commercial scale packaging (36 pieces per case)
The plate is offered in a “Case of 36” units. For high-turnover environments (restaurants, hotels, banquet operations) this bulk pack size helps simplify stocking, ensure matching sets, and streamline replacements
Disadvantages
Smaller than standard dinner-plate size
While 7-1/8″ is great for starters/appetisers, it may be too small for main courses in some service formats. If your operation uses large entrée plating or sharing dishes, this size might feel limited.
Comment
We switched to the International Tableware 7-1/8″ plate (case of 36) for our salad/appetiser service in the hotel’s dining room. The size feels perfect for a starter or plated dessert, and the material feels robust rather than thin or fragile. On the downside, some of our servers commented that the plate felt heavier than our previous 8″ plates and one of the stacking racks needed adjustment for the rim width
